Recently, the Early Works of the ESAC 600 KTA Soda Ash & Derivatives Project, constructed by CNCEC-TCC, was officially commenced in the New Alamein Industrial Zone. This milestone marks the entry of the project into its substantive implementation phase, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent construction works.
As Egypt’s first large-scale soda ash project, this initiative has been designated as a key project under Egypt’s “Industrial Development Program” and is invested and constructed by Egyptian Soda Ash Company (ESAC). The project is designed to produce 600,000 tons per year of soda ash and derivatives, utilizing the well-established and highly reliable Solvay process.
The commencement of the project not only marks a critical step forward in Egypt’s efforts to build an independent modern chemical industry system, but also sets a new benchmark for Chinese chemical engineering technology and services entering the North African market.
At the ceremony, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the project owner stated that this project represents a significant milestone in Egypt’s efforts to restart its soda ash industry and establish a complete, full-process soda ash industrial system. Upon completion, the project will effectively fill the long-standing domestic supply gap, strengthen supply security for core industrial raw materials such as glass and detergents, significantly enhance Egypt’s overall supporting capabilities in basic chemicals, and reduce foreign exchange expenditure caused by soda ash imports. In addition, the project will promote the in-depth development and utilization of local mineral resources, drive the growth of regional industrial clusters, and align closely with Egypt’s national industrial strategy of “reducing raw mineral exports and promoting local deep processing.”
