Indonesia’s First Soda Ash Project Officially Groundbreaking June 12, 2025
Recently, the 300 KTA soda ash project for Indonesia’s PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT), EPC-contracted by CNCEC-TCC, officially commenced construction. As Indonesia’s first soda ash project, it is a national key project and marks the inaugural implementation of China’s Hou’s soda ash process (dual-alkali method) in Indonesia.
Located in Bontang, East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, the project includes a 300 KTA soda ash production unit. Responding to multiple Indonesian government strategic initiatives, it adopts internationally advanced dual-alkali technology, including increasing compound fertilizer production through ammonium chloride byproducts to advance food self-sufficiency and utilizing carbon dioxide as raw material to support carbon emission reduction and green economy goals. Upon completion, it will significantly reduce Indonesia’s dependence on soda ash imports, accelerate the development of downstream soda ash industries, promote the independence of Indonesia’s chemical industry, and generate substantial positive impacts on Indonesia’s economy, environment, and society.
